still waiting for absentee ballot
« on: September 10, 2004, 11:04:38 PM »
I'm still waiting to receive my ballot....is anyone else?  I thought I would have had it by now. I filed all my paperwork back in May 2003.

If you want to confirm that you are on the electoral rolls you can phone up FVAP toll free from the UK on 0800 169 8035. You just need to have your name and last US residence for identification.

Now, I warn you, I phoned up and the lady (while very very pleasant) couldn't help me but she did transfer me to the Maricopa County Electoral Board (which is where I'm from) who very curtly told me that ballots won't be sent until October.

It could be different from where you're from. I recommend phoning just to check it out.

You may not get it until next month.  Did you get the post card confirming that you will be getting an absentee ballot?  You should have, or I would think so anyway.  When I got mine it said my ballot would be posted to me in October.

That's what my post card said, too, Elle.  :)

Hm.  I filed everything a couple of months ago, have received no postcard and no ballot.  This is not good.

I'll be using that phone number ASAP.

I never received a postcard, but I did receive an absentee ballot for a local race about three weeks ago, which I assume means that I'm on the rolls. So it might not matter if you didn't get a postcard.

Ditto. I think it could possibly be different from every county.

This might be of interest to those from Florida awaiting their absentee ballots:

Florida's top court on Wednesday allowed the inclusion of independent presidential candidate Ralph Nader on absentee ballots, but told the state not to mail any of the ballots until it had made a final decision on the validity of Nader's candidacy.

The Florida Supreme Court is scheduled to hear oral arguments on Friday in a case challenging Nader's right to run in the Nov. 2 election as a presidential candidate for the Reform Party. The top court may rule by Saturday, which is the deadline for mailing overseas ballot papers.

If it allows Nader to join the race, that would be regarded as a boost for President Bush in the battleground state.

Why don't they just cut Florida loose and let it drift off to sea?

It's become about as useful as a rubber crutch.  :-\\\\

I was told that I would receive mine 28 days before the election. That was talking directly to someone not something that was written or anything like that.

Hope that helps! x x
