Summer 2009?
« on: October 16, 2008, 11:10:30 PM »
Hey all -

I'm trying to find decent deals for my parents to come to Glasgow from Phoenix next summer (late June thru early July). The prices I've found are all over $1400/£794 , is this normal? I've never travelled at this time, i wait until August and it's usually much cheaper. We can do it for $1000 via Toronto and Canadian Affair, but I'm not sure whether to wait til after Christmas in case prices go down, or book this now while it's the best deal available. I've tried flying them to London, Amsterdam, Dublin, Paris and anywhere else accessabile. Is this the norm for summer fares? Should I book the ticket for $1000 while I have the chance?

I would wait.
By next spring the ailines should bring down their fares. Why? The price of fuel has gone way down. Also, no passengers so they will have an oversupply of seats.

That's good advice, I just wasn't sure if the airlines were going to cut capacity/number of flights, etc...?

Summertime travel is also hugely more expensive than other times of year, obviously. I used to nip over to England for $99 each way in February (some years ago, of course).

If you book it through Orbitz they have a price guarantee.... if anyone else gets the same flight cheaper thru them (at a later date) you are supposed to get an automatic refund.
