They make them here where I work (I am told we are the only ones allowed to make them as we sort of "invented" them, so most all the store brands, etc. come from here). I shouldn't say this as our company is in so much trouble at the moment anyway, but DH tells me that there are two kinds of goosefat, happy fat and unhappy fat. Happy fat comes from grain-fed geese and Sainsbury's is the only supermarket that will pay extra and will only use this type of fat. The unhappy fat that every other supermarket uses comes from Hungary from geese that are tube-fed.
I feel utterly disgusted, and though I am not a vegetarian or anything, I can't really ignore the cruelty of shoving tubes down a bird's throat. I wish our company wouldn't use this type of fat to make these products.
Just thought I would let you guys know, as I know a lot of you only eat free-range chicken and eggs...
