can you fly within the UK without a passport?

DH is due to go up to Scotland for a business trip but he has misplaced his passport. Does anyone know if you can fly without it if your not going outside the country?  What would be acceptable forms of ID? He has a driver's license. I'm not sure if it's like the states where you can use your driving license to fly domestic.  Or is this down to each airline? 

Drivers licence is fine in my experience as long as it's a photo licence.  I'd check with the airline though.

Just as an addition to that... we freaked out in September because we had to fly within the UK but my youngest didn't have a passport. We were actually going to London to get his US one!! I ended up phoning EasyJet and all I needed was his birth certificate. BUT some online horror stories will tell you otherwise.

Trust Ryanair to be awkward about it!

We flew from Edinburgh to Orkney on our photo driver's licenses. No one questioned my American accent with a British driver's license. Neither of us had our passports since we'd sent them off for my ILR.

I should have come back sooner but I haven't really been on the computer that much since starting work in London. 

My husband did manage to fly with EasyJet with no problem at all with just his driver's license.  We did print out the page that said you could use your driver's license as I we know that airlines sometimes have a habit of saying "but it's listed in our fine print/or website". So he went armed just in case!
