US lawyer Needed!

Hello all,

I am a US citizen currently working in the UK and I would like to bring my Fiancé back to the US with me. I was wondering if anyone out there could recommend a good lawyer for me to work with here in the UK or in the US so that I can expedite the process. Thanks for everything!

I don't know if Vicky can help with this.  He is taking her to the US not to the UK.   

As far as I am aware, the only way you could speed things up is if you got married and lived together long enough to apply at the US Embassy in London, which means at least a year I believe. 

I can't recommend or give you the name of a lawyer, but Google US immigration lawyer in UK and you should get a few results.

A lawyer won't expedite the process all they can do is make sure that all your paperwork is in order.

If you are still insistent on having an attorney then you will, preferably, want one that is AILA registered though that is still no guarantee of proficiency.

Yes. Try John Craig in Los Angeles: 213-627-4141. He was very helpful when I married my US husband back in 97 and later with my citizenship. Terrific guy. I found the immigration process very stressful and having sound legal advice made all the difference.

I hope it isnt too late to respond to this question.  We were in a simular situation in 06.  I went to the UK to spend 6 months with my boyfriend..kind of get to know one another visit.  I can back to the states in May of 06.  Lets just say.."we missed each other so he came for a ""visit""! in June 06. While he was here we got married in July.  Our attorney immediately filled the paperwork for us to adjust his staus..which was immediately approved.  He had his greencard in hand in Jan 07.  They didnt make him leave and apply from the UK..as some people will tell you will happen.  We didnt hit any snags what so ever.  Dont know if we were just lucky, but we are happily married now.  (btw, planning on moving back to the UK when we hit the married 4 yrs mark)  So there is a way to do it without the long wait.

Not an advisable route though. The key is the 'intent' at the POE. This is something that is being cracked down on.

Plenty has changed since your filing in 2006 - plenty has changed since I got my K1 back in 2003, (in three months, from start to finish) and green card in 2004, (four months, from start to finish). It doesn't mean that what was relevant then, experience-wise, is relevant now.

Thanks everyone for you help. I spoke with a US lawyer in the UK and he recommended to get married in the UK and then do a DCF as this will be quicker and she will get her greencard sooner. As time is running out (JUN-JUL) deadline, I have put in for a Certificate of Approval and we will give the DCF route a go. Any information or tips on DCF again if a laywer will help (he wants £2000.00 to do the paperwork) will be most helpful. Thanks again for your support and kind words...

Do not pay a lawyer unless there is something complicated about your case, e.g. a criminal record. With a lawyer you will still have to get everything together.

Go to the USCIS site, download the I-130 and instructions, also download the I-864. Read these through - they're not complicated at all.
