You haven't been here long enough to go off ranch dressing! ;)

Plus, to replace it with salad cream is just WRONG!

I know, it's strange.... I've mixed up packets of the Hidden Valley stuff that I brought with me, but it somehow never tastes the same... I dip my chips in brown sauce now instead of ranch.... I used to eat ranch dressing on pizza, grilled cheese sandwiches, and practically everything else... I am learning to do without, or use the garlic sauce or curry sauce from the chip shop...

Hehe.... DH loves salad cream, I find its not too bad on a small side salad, but I've also started using Thousand Island dressing more these days... I wanted to try the Cardini Ranch to see if I liked it, but everyone on the forum seems to think its no bueno.  I've never seen the Paul Newman Ranch, I would buy that in an instant....

It says on the package to mix it with milk and mayo, which is what I have done.  I am sure it would be better with buttermilk, but I can't find any around here.  In the past I only used those packets to make the dip with sour cream, which is always good, but I can't seem to make the dressing taste right.
And I've noticed that sour cream around here isn't refrigerated, and I've been afraid to try it for fear it won't taste like what I'm used to and I will be disappointed.... silly, I know, but the Old El Paso stuff over here has let me down, and I cried when I got their taco shells and they were all stale and nasty.... lol....

There's refrigerated sour(ed) cream. It's lovely, I think! Or try creme fraiche, which is similar, especially the half-fat stuff.

Try using Creme Fraiche instead.

They have buttermilk at Tesco, but it is in with the cream and in a little pot not in a carton like at home.

It's at Morrison's too. Honestly, I don't think you'd have much trouble finding it at any of the major supermarkets - provided you know where to look.

Yes!
I find Creme Fraiche is much tastier than soured cream and thicker too. The soured cream here is too runny.

i wouldnt use buttermilk if the packet just says milk... the mix itself is likely to have dried buttermilk in it, so it might be a bit OTT if you mix it with buttermilk.
I have no idea why it is tasting weird to you... you cant really go wrong with milk, mayo and a powdered mix!

As the others said, though, if you are making the DIP instead of the DRESSING, use creme fraiche.   Or maybe use creme fraiche and thin it with milk for the dressing?
