Tim doesn't have a real oven...he has one of those counter-top ones....where if you're using the oven (like say, to cook the turkey), then you can only use the small burner on the stove part!  (and it only has 2 burners to begin with)

I'm trying to figure out all my planning, too.  I like the idea of making some of the things the day before and just heating them in the microwave.  I might do that with the mashed potatoes.

I'm also trying to figure out if I can use the slow cooker for anything. Hmmm.....

I wish my mom would miss me... she seems very indiffferent right now and has decided to just give everyone cash at a time that I would Kill for some presents to chear me up :(

But anyways found the Salad crispies on mysupermarket for both sainsburys and tesco!

Awwww..... sorry your mom is such a holiday pooper....  :(
My mom has a LOT of time on her hands, she doesn't work or anything, and I am an only child, so that must be part of it....

But thats good news about the fried onions, anyway!  They don't seem to have much of anything I am looking for around here!

Oh, and Anna, I am pretty sure I stumbled across a slow cooker recipe for turkey and dressing the other day.... yep, just googled it and there were quite a few, here is one I found, but the link wouldn't seem to work, so I will just paste it:

Slow Cooker Turkey and Dressing

1 (8 oz) pacage herb-seasoned stuffing mix
1 Onion, chopped
2 Celery ribs, chopped
1 cup dried cranberries
3/4 cup chicken broth
3 T butter, melted
1 (3 lb) frozen boneless turkey breast, thawed
1/4 tsp salt
1/2 tsp pepper
1/4 tsp dried thyme
1 package turkey gravy mix

Coat inside of 4 qt electric slow cooker with cooking spray. Add stuffing mix, onion, celery and cranberries. Combine broth and melted butter. Pour over stuffing and stir gently.

Remove sting from turkey breast and rinse. Place turkey in slow cooker on top of stuffing. Combine salt, pepper and thyme and sprinkle over turkey. Cover and cook on high 1 hour. Reduce to low and cooke 5-6 hours or until a meat thermometer inserted in turkey registers 170.

Remove turkey to a serving platter. Stir stuffing gently in slow cooker; cover and let stand 3-4 mins. Prepare gravy and spoon stuffing around turkey on platter.

Oh wow!  Neat-o.  Sadly, the breast we got is a 6 pounder and I don't think it would fit in the crock pot. I *did* however find a recipe for mashed potatoes in the crock -

from http://www.a-crock-cook.com:

Slow Cooker Mashed Potato Recipe
3 pounds fingerling potatoes, scrubbed and halved
water to cover
1 stick butter, softened
heavy cream about 1/2 cup
Salt and freshly ground black pepper

Place the potatoes in your slow cooker. Pour in enough water to just cover the potatoes. (If they are not covered, they will darken as they cook.)

Cover and cook on HIGH for 4 to 8 hours, or until the potatoes are very soft. Use a ladle to scoop out most of the cooking liquid.

Add the butter to the potatoes and use potato masher or a wooden spoon to mash the potatoes. It's ok if they are a little lumpy. As you mash the potatoes, add heavy cream until the right consistency is achieved. Season with salt and pepper to taste and serve hot.

I'll have to get up early to turn it on since we want to eat at noon, but I think I might try this to free up the burner for the sweet potatoes!

Hmmmm.... that does sound good!  We don't have a slow cooker, unfortunately, but I am putting the turkey in my MIL's oven across the street to free up our oven for the casseroles and pies.    ;)
