I have found a site called BookingBuddy where you fill in your travel data (dates, from/to, etc) and then it links you to Expedia, Orbitz, Priceline and others so you can do fare searches without having to reenter all the data each time. Very Handy!

Since the price of fuel has declined shouldn't the airlines be rethinking their fares?

I know the price of fuel is not down to where it was but still.....

The price of fuel could hardly have been responsible for the huge increase in prices. Prices nearly doubled, at least on the Toronto-London route, but jet fuel didn't double, did it? But even if it did, it would have made up only a fraction of the cost of the ticket in the first place.

The fuel cost didn't double, but didn't the majority of the airlines have stated that their price increases were due to an added 'fuel surcharge'? For most flights, this surcharge seems to be about $250 on top of the taxes/fees and the companies have explicitly said that it is to cover the increased cost of fuel.

I think the other problem airlines are facing is not enough people are flying.  I just flew back from Winnipeg via Minneapolis, and the only reason my Minneapolis-Philadelphia flight was full was because USAir had to shunt some of their passengers to my flight due to a broken plane.

On my way to Winnipeg, I had a connection in Detroit, an airport I've traveled through and to a lot in the past few years (I lived in Ann Arbor briefly), and not only was my flight pretty empty, but even the airport was relatively empty - and this was a Saturday!

Digging up this thread -

I want to use Expedia.com, but now there's that warning message that residents of the UK must use their .co.uk website (which is actually working out at as more expensive weirdly).  Thing is that I need to pay on my UK card because I don't have time to get the money over in dollars before we NEED to buy tickets tomorrow.

Are they really not allowing UK people to book?  Has anyone tried?

I have found a site that allows you to complete all your travel data and then it links you to Expedia, Orbitz, Priceline, Kayak, CheapAir, Farecast.... all of the majors and you only have to complete your data once..... it sure saves alot of time. Plus you can hit the link to all of them at the same time and review them side by side. The link is www.bookingbuddy.com [nofollow]

I normally use kayak.com, but they stopped using vayama.com and their prices skyrocketed, so I used vayama.com directly instead.

(and if something goes tits up, booking through the airline's website insures that its their fault, not a 3rd party (orbitz, expedia, etc))

This.  Never worked in an airline, but after years working as a hotel front desk clerk, I'll only book through a third party site (hotel, flight, anything) if there's significant savings and if I'm not going to be fussed if my reservation is completely lost.

I went directly through Aer Lingus to book our OW tickets. I think we got a great deal-- $315 each from Detroit to Newcastle (one stop in Dublin along the way). The only downside is that I'm wondering why it was so cheap and if that says anything about the quality of the airliner... I'm going to chalk this up to being paranoid.

Regarding booking through third part sites... DH and I agreed to avoid it if at all possible in the future. We booked a hotel for 4 nights for our honeymoon a few months ago, and I got terribly sick the 3rd day (sinusitis & laryngytis).
We had to leave before check out time on the 4th day and asked for a refund for that night, and they refused, siting the fact that we booked through a third-party website. What a joke!
