Aye. And lately, given the stress I've seen with people who own their homes, I quite like the freedom of renting. After 6 months I can move, I'm not responsible for the big expenses like repairs, and as long as your landlord/estate agency doesn't suck, it can be quite nice. In a down market you don't have to worry about selling and losing money, in an upmarket you don't have to worry about whether you can make mortgage payments on a house you can't afford. My money isn't being thrown away- I have a place to live and I don't have to pay plumbers, builders, electricians, etc. to keep it running. Yay!

Good points!

You don't really save any money by renting, infact it's just thowing away money (according to my accountant dh)

How can paying for a roof over your head be 'throwing away money'? You might just as well argue that buying food is a waste of money.
There is no such thing as bad weather, only bad clothing

On the assumption my business (automotive events) can get thru the credit crunch....

build it up for the next 3-5 years then sell up and retire.....

Houseboat in Bembridge
Small Georgian flat in central Bath
Small villa in Portugal (Luz /Lagos)

spend my time travelling between the three and buying classic cars.

How will I retire? Hopefully travel the world.
As for when, not for a looooong time!
Good things come to those who wait...a really long time.
