Bath in January
« on: December 17, 2008, 01:58:49 PM »
DH and I are looking for a weekend getaway trip in January and are considering Bath.

Anyone have any recommendations on where to stay?

How about getting there? We're in central Scotland. Should we fly or take a train? Is Bristol the closest airport?

Or, is there somewhere else you could recommend?
I made it!!

I recommend staying at The Henry.

Here's an old Bath thread, with loads of info:

And if you threw a party
Invited everyone you knew
You would see the biggest gift would be from me
And the card attached would say
"Thank you for being a friend!"

Bristol is the closest airport. Easy Jet flies from Edinburgh to Bristol and is cheaper than the train. From the airport you can get the Airport Flyer coach (£8 return) to Bristol Temple Meads where you can get the train to Bath (somewhere around £5 single). The coach to Temple Meads is 30-45 minutes depending on traffic, and the train to Bath is 15 minutes.

Bath is lovely! You'll have a great time. I usually stay with family there but, if not, I've always found the Holiday Inn Express to be a good option. It's cheap, clean, convenient, etc. Plus, you get breakfast!  :)

I have stayed in Holly Villa before.  Its a B&B within walking distance of the town itself.

We went to bath for our 5th anniversary in February...loved it...stayed in a nice b&b..called the arlyngton...5 star b and b  http://www.ayrlington.com/

with a lovely four poster bed...place has a bit of an oriental feel..think the owners are oriental?

....beautiful place..the bathroom was a bit of a let down not fancy enough...within walking distance to main attractions...

i was disappointed that the american museum was closed when we went..think it closes certain times of year...really enjoyed the roman baths and shopping was fun...we went to a chinese restaurant for dinner...not the nicest...so wouldnt do chinese if we went back...

I've never managed a trip to Bath when it's open! It closes for the winter, but I think it's open for a short time over Christmas ... not sure if that extends to the OP's January trip or not.
