Manchester Christmas Markets
« on: December 17, 2008, 01:00:09 PM »
I stopped by the Manchester Christmas Marksts yesterday after a meeting, and my, I was very impressed!

I can highly recommend a trip to Manchester City Centre before 22 December.  There are 5 markets around the city centre, with a huge range of food, drink and Christmas gifts from Germany, France, Holland, Wales, England, Scotland.  The market in Albert Square is the largest and most atmospheric, particularly once it gets dark (which is as early as 4pm!!).  There is a also an open air ice skating rink in the city centre, for added festive fun.

See www.manchesterchristmasmarkets.com for details.

I have to say (and this pains me as a Yorkshireman), it crushes the German Christmas Market in Leeds.

as a resident of manchester, i must say the market is good, however over the past 2 or so years i have seen prices increase and not as many authenticstalls as there used to be maybe 5 or 6 years ago, but still one of our traditions to visit.

I went on Monday, it was the last day and the wonderful plant vendors were literally giving their stuff away! We got wreaths and amaryliis bulbs galore for under a tenner, I wanted a curly willow tree, but it wouldn't fit my car. Also, if you are in Manchester between Christmas and New Year Dazzle is on at the town hall, its a wonderful handmade jewelry show.
