Community kitchen question
« on: December 19, 2008, 09:04:32 PM »
Hi,
What is the UK equivalent of the community kitchen/soup kitchen?
Ever since I was little we have always spent the first day of Thanksgiving an this Christmas working there helping cook, serving, delivering food to people.
This year I will not be with my family but I would still like to continue this tradition.  I tried looking around but I only see money collection.
I understand there might be hygiene issues and such if I were to cook.  But I would be glad to even donate non-perishables (food drive) or help out in some way.
Can anyone point me to a place in London?
Thanks!

One of the big charities - Crisis has an appeal on their website for volunteers.

Shelter and Local Age Concerns may be running something too.

Good luck!  It's such a nice thought and way to help out.

I may be way off, but I thought the American Church in London on Tottenham Court Road did some type of soup kitchen...I would check there.
