Dying to make some puppy show. Is there anything comparable to chex here?

I was asked to make some puppy chow for my friends' two kids before I go over to NI visit this week. Funny.

I'm told that Shreddies are very much like chex.  I've never had them, myself, but I guess it's worth a shot.  It seems like Shreddies are made from wheat where Chex are made from either Wheat or Rice, so depending on what type of Chex you normally use(d) in the states, the taste may be a bit different.

Let me know how it goes if you make them, though!

I've used Shreddies and made "Chex" mix and it came out just fine... :)  Just head to your largest supermarket and search the aisles... I threw in all sorts of stuff... some UK peeps couldn't get over the idea of it being made up with cereal though! :)

Yes, Shreddies works well: http://www.cerealpartners.co.uk/brands/shreddies-original.aspx

Just avoid the Honey Oat, Frosted and Choco ones!

Depending on what you put in your mix, it might be difficult to find the pretzels...  Even some of the larger shops seem to be severly lacking in varieties of pretzels.

At this time of year you might be able to find a party mix of tiny pretzels and also check in the Polish section - there are usually good pretzels there.  I am the pretzel queen.

I made Chex mix with Shreddies, actually a cheap store brand called Malties, and it was yummy!  Sainsbury's has store brand pretzels, about £1 a bag.

Can confirm seeing those pretzel selections in a couple of tescos.
And if you threw a party
Invited everyone you knew
You would see the biggest gift would be from me
And the card attached would say
"Thank you for being a friend!"

I've been wanting chex mix for some time but never thought of substituting shreddies.   [smiley=dunce.gif]
Thanks to all who suggested it!

All the Tescos around here sell pretzels but like someone else said, if you check the Polish section you'll likely find some there as well. The ones in the crisp section are around £1 a bag but the ones in the Polish section are only around 30p or 40p and are stuffed fuller.

Here is a recipe off the website:

There are all sorts of other recipes for different types of Chex mix on that site, as well.  I like the "Muddy Buddies" chex mix with the peanut butter, too!   ;D

MMMMMMMM Muddy Buddies!! Those are my absolute favorite. I've been telling my sister all week we need to make them. Only problem is once I start eating them I can't stop.

Couldn't find a recipe for one online, but they sell a pre-made sweet and salty mix.  Not here in the UK, though.  Here is a link for those, it might give you some ideas for how to make one.  I would suggest putting in pretzels, M&Ms or Smarties, etc. to make it sweet and salty.

You could always try Cybercandy's website (or the shop if you live in London) or Selfridge's if you're looking for the real thing
