creating a PDF from a Word file
« on: January 19, 2009, 04:24:56 PM »
Can anyone recommend a cheap or free PDF writer? We need to convert a large Word document into a PDF.
When I was 5 years old, my mother always told me that happiness was the key to life. When I went to school, they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wrote down ‘happy’. They told me I didn’t understand the assignment, and I told them they didn’t understand life. ~ John Lennon

Can't you save it as a PDF when you choose to print it?  Or is that a Mac thing?

That is a PC thing too, and it should work.

Oops. I'm a dork. Shoulda checked. The printer we were speaking to seemed to think we'd need a convertor. But I'll go have a look. Thanks!

Before I had a mac and could do it easily on the print function, I used to use adobe online.
If you don't anticipate needing to change a lot of documents into a PDF- adobe online will give you a free trial for like 5 documents or something.  I've never had an issue with it and I've registered on multiple email addresses so I can have more.

Yep, just download the free software from this website and you'll be good to go (there is no expiry on this free software, I've been using it for the past year since I started my current job, with no issues or problems):

http://www.cutepdf.com/Products/CutePDF/writer.asp

When you want to save the Word doc, you select "print" and "Cute PDF" appears as one of your printers, and at that time, it saves the file to a pdf version.

PDFCreator is also a good option (it's a SourceForge project).
