I've only been to two Thai places in the UK, and neither one had pad thai on the menu. Nor nime chow.  :(

Never heard of nime chow but the three Thai places near me (inc the local pub) have pad thai.

I've never been to a Thai restaurant in the US that didn't serve nime chow. What a shame that it sounds as if it doesn't exist over here.

They're sort of like spring rolls, but not fried - or even cooked, except for the prawns. They're wrapped in rice paper, and are generally filled with cellophane noodles, Thai basil, bean sprouts and prawns (though I always got veggie no-prawn ones). Then you dip them in lovely lime-peanut sauce. Oh, I could go for some now!  :(

I've had something similar at a Vietnamese restaurant in America, but never at a Thai restaurant (but I usually would get corn patties or something like that).  Maybe you could try a Vietnamese place??

I think they are actually Vietnamese or Cambodian, but they're always at Thai restaurants in the US too.

(I really doubt that we have any Vietnamese places down here.)

I call those rolls wrapped in rice paper Summer Rolls, they are super easy to make at home.

It does sound like what my Vietnamese flatmate always called spring rolls--oh, they were so good!!

In Belfast there is a place on the Ormeau road called Gaze that has something similar. It is definitely not the same as I  am from Philly and also love General Tso. But it is tasty. I cannot remember exactly what it was called - I think maybe Honey Chilli Crispy chicken? I think they had a few chicken dishes on the menu that say they are breaded and fried with sweet/hot sauce so you may need to try them all. Good luck, hope this helps.

Hi John,

I was in Belfast again in December and we went to Red Panda in the Odyssey.  I got a chicken with honey and chili sauce, but it was sickeningly sweet after a while.  the "honey" part of it was kind of a broth-type substance that the pieces of chicken were just kind of dumped into.  It was good for a while, and then became disgusting to eat.

Is the sauce thick and sticks to the chicken, or is it more like it's spooned over the chicken?  Perhaps this is worth a try.

The sauce from what I remember was kind of thick and the chicken pieces were kind of long and thinner than the general tso pieces. It did get a bit sickening towards the very end.
