If anyone is aware of the legal implications of my company taking care of a visa and a WP for my gf, I'd really appreciate it.

If you have been living together for 24 months, it is pretty straight forward.  If not, then you are going to have to rethink.

To ask for guidance as well, everyone...any advice would be greatly appreciated!  I'll be making 35k, and am considering flatshare options.  Are rents of 600 per month (not inclusive) and 700 (inclusive) too much on my salary, or will this be reasonable? I'm trying not to give myself an unreasonable commute (I'd prefer to keep it under an hour, but know it'll be more than 30 minutes), but I don't want to live too far from public transportation,  which is wear the lower rents seem to be.  Is this unfeasible on my salary?  I'm not sure what the day to day costs will be yet.

I think that £600 on £35,000 a year is very reasonable.  You'd take home around £2000/month and so that would only be 30% of your income spent on housing.  Very decent...   The other stuff, well that all depends on how your personal circumstances on what you want and will spend your money on...

Thank you!  I was trying to estimate, as I don't know what exactly other montly expenses might be, so I would think it'd be another 100 pounds, give or take for utilities, tax, etc.  Which still seemed fair, but it's just hard for me to judge without the experience of living here.  I just didn't want to put myself in a position where I'm just waiting for the paycheck to drop in every month, you know?

I do have some savings from the US which will be a nice buffer in the beginning, but I was just thinking about 6 months down the line.

Thanks for the advice!

I mean, I know I'll spend on food and such, but I spent some time here a month back and was able to get an estimate on what I would be spending on food and going out.  It wasn't a ton, I don't know if that's a reflection of getting older, or just preferring food I cook for myself.

for a flatshare, £100ish a month for council tax + utilities is fairly reasonable...if you live on your own, though, it would be considerably more than that.

That's what I am realizing when looking for places.  The flatshares I have been looking at have quoted around that amount, whereas when I've asked people living on their own, it was more.

I'm just thinking of the flatshare for both financial and social reasons.  Not that I need to be best friends with flatmates, but more that I would prefer not to live totally by myself my first year here and have people possibly to ask questions about the uk, etc.  And the one I like the most so far has girls about my age (late 20's, early 30's) that have steady jobs, but seem easy going, etc.  You know, based on the 15 minutes I met them yesterday.
