A Few Questions
« on: May 05, 2009, 09:42:45 PM »
I have suffered from Planter Facities really badly for the last few years. Does the NHS offer foot care? And more specifically Dr made insoles?

Is there ever a way NHS covers Chiropractic care? (IE if you are lifting at your job)

I was under the impression that the NHS did not cover Dental visits, but recently some co-workers informed me you are offered one dental visit a year through NHS? Is this true?

The NHS does provide dental care, but it is not free at point of delivery like doctor/hospital care is - you have to pay for it (around £16 for a basic check up, £44 for fillings etc. and around £190 for crowns/root canals etc.). I have an NHS dentist and I see her every 6 months to a year, depending on when she decides I should make my next appointment.

You can either choose to have NHS dental care or you can pay privately for dental care - it's up to you. However, there is a general shortage of NHS dentists and some surgeries can have waiting lists of up to a couple of years long in order to register as a patient, so private care may be the only option if you can't find an NHS dentist in your area.

Yup, NHS will cover insoles for planter facities. You'll probably have to go through being re-diagnosed, waiting ages to  see a foot doctor but once you have an NHS prescription it should be fine.

The NHS will also cover chiropractic care in certain areas, it's a post code lottery, mostly the NHS sees it as a complementary procedure so wont cover it.

if you want random chiropractic care then you might want to get some cheap PPP (the company my mum uses) style healthcare which will top up your NHS care. My mother pays about £15 a month and it refunds her for each osteopath visit she has, and also covers like some weird stuff, acupuncture or something. She has a similar thing for her dentist treatment, pays about £10 a month and gets her dentist treatments refunded if she has to pay. - I think it's called denplan
