« on: July 01, 2004, 02:18:52 PM »
Just wanted to introduce myself...my name is Melissa and my boyfriend and I are looking into moving to Ireland one day.  We are very curious and are just looking to see what really goes into moving overseas!  So "Hello"!  Hope everyone has a good day and any advice you may have I am all ears!   ;D

Welcome, Tampa2!  You'll find there is lots of good info on this site, and friendly people, too.

Have you checked out our "Visas and Immigration" section yet?

No not yet - actually right now we are just trying to figure out what it will cost us in the long run...looks like we might have to wait a couple of years to save up...looks kind of costly..  :-\\\\

You'll need some sort of Visa to move to Ireland, I think is what Saf might have been getting at.  You can't simply just pick up and move - so you might want to check out the Visa section and see what might apply to your situation.

Well, yes, but mostly for the moving tips.  The visa and the cost of the visa is something to work into your expenses, though!  (Assuming you qualify for a visa.)

I'm so pathetic - I still have the receipt from our visas in NY from September 2002.  ::)

Hmmm I know Southern Ireland is not apart of the UK?  But is there different things you have to go through?  I'd rather live in S. Ireland....  ???

What information, exactly, are you looking for?

I'm sure Ireland has an immigration website you could look at.  Most of us are either UK bound or living in the UK, so the Republic of Ireland isn't one of the places we generally cover.

I would imagine most of the immigration restrictions would be the same or similar, as they are with most countries, and a lot of the costs would be similar though not exactly the same.

A quick search turned up the following:

http://foreignaffairs.gov.ie/askus/faq/default.asp?m=k

I believe it's at least one official government site for the Republic of Ireland, the link is for the FAQ page.

And here's another one:

Welcome Tampa2.  I have no doubt you and your boyfriend would have a great time in Ireland, they are a good group of people. :)
