HELP, leaky fridge!
« on: May 29, 2009, 11:22:25 AM »
Our Zanussi frost-free fridge freezer has started to leak lots of water.

Also, the freezer is now full of frost.

We really can't afford a new fridge, but can get one from Argos 2 years interest free.

Is it time to get rid?

Getting a repair person out here isn't very practical or cost-effective.

Have you checked to see if it is something simple like the drainage blocked?  If it isn't that, it might be time.

Hmm, when it comes to fridges, I wouldn't know my a** from a hole in the ground and Andrew is not the DIY type.

Think we'll just take it to the community skip and get another. :\\\'(

You should be able to find the drain fairly easily. In ours, it was just a ridge in the back of the fridge or freezer with a little hole in it. It could very easily get clogged up with ice or debris. Go pull some stuff out and see if you can see it. It will probably be pretty evident if it's clogged up.
When I was 5 years old, my mother always told me that happiness was the key to life. When I went to school, they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wrote down ‘happy’. They told me I didn’t understand the assignment, and I told them they didn’t understand life. ~ John Lennon

A blocked drain hole is by far the most likely cause, and easy to cure - Not to mention being considerably cheaper than buying a new freezer!

After reading this I decided to go clean out the fridge which was covered in ice.  I turned it off to work on it with the door open and forgot to turn it back on again for 24 hours.  ARGH!

Well my next suggestion after clearing the drains would have been to defrost it, so you're half way there.  ;)

Also - check the doorseals.  If you're getting a thick hoarfrost, the doors might not be sealing properly.
Ask and ye shall be babbled at.

My old fridge used to leak a bit, but it was because I didn't defrost it often enough. Have you done that recently?
