Oxford rec?
« on: March 12, 2009, 02:54:53 PM »
Hi all

Going to Oxford for a concert in a month or so, and would like any suggestions as to where to stay/what to do.  I would like a reasonably priced place that is convenient to the city centre (haha, right).  Any thoughts?

Also, if anyone has advice of what to see or do there, that would be great.  I live in Cambridge and have the idea that Oxford is similar, but would love to be proved wrong.

Hm. Where to stay? Well, pretty much everywhere is expensive. If you are OK with being a longer walk or bus ride from town centre then there are probably lots more affordable options. Here's a list of places to stay, anyhow: http://www.dailyinfo.co.uk/venues.php?cat=hotel

Things to do. Both the Pitt Rivers museum and the  Ashmolean are closed for renovation, so count those out. There's always wandering about and looking at architecture, and going into colleges or having a Bodelian Library tour!

The Malmaison is a great hotel with a couple nice bars and set in a converted prison! As far as reasonably priced, it is really good value for money and they run great deals though it is definitely closer to the £100 per night mark. It definitely feels like it should be more expensive though.
