I would suspect the US VSDs would probablly even accept an expired UK passport.

Indeed, they will.

Oh Vicky I had a question for you  ;)

Tonight I bought a little folder that has like 5 tabs on it so one can insert different papers into each pocket. I put my app in one, the pics and "proof" docs in another, the financial statements in one, etc. and labeled them. Do you think the Consulate will see this as me trying to hard or will they appreciate the organization?

In fact the ECO would most likely not get it in that format.  An assistant in the office will likely pull it out and organise it in a fashion that makes it easiest for the ECO to process.  I don't think we have heard of a single case of an application being refused for being too organised.  Also, I think most US ECOs are used to us neurotic, obsessive compulsive, anxitety riddled applicants.

Making it clear what is what can only help and if you provide too much, they will just ignore it.

LOL thanks Kitson. I have always been super neurotic about things when it comes to the whole "everything has a place". I just figured the clearer it is the faster someone can say APPROVED! My friend just immigrated from Canada to the US and she was telling me to not look too eager or someone would think I had something to prove. It's just DF and I are such sentimental dorks. We've literally saved every little thing in our "treasure" boxes.  [smiley=smitten.gif]

When crossing the border, that is very good advice.  If you roll up to the immigration desk with a pile of paperwork and look like you are looking for a fight, you will likely get one.  The trick is always be prepared, be honest, but only answer what is asked and avoid offering up additional information.

When applying for a visa to enter the UK from the US, it isn't in person, so you have no choice but to be overprepared.  Even when applying in person for a visa, which you might do when you are in the UK, the trick is to bring everything but only hand over what they ask for!  Recently when I got my ILR (which you can read about by clicking on the link in my sig) I only handed over 1/2 of the things I had brought.

Yeah I guess everyone in the USA is required to do an interview in person too. Hers is scheduled for next week and she's not worried but she made me all paranoid after she said that. She did her bios where I will be doing mine so she's gonna show me where it was and wait in the car for me. Do you know if they take the passport size pics at the bios or do I need to go get the pics for my app taken somewhere else?

You need to get the passport sized pictures taken on your own. Usually they have places EVERYWHERE to get these done, for around $10. I got mine done at Duane Reade (a drugstore that's on pretty much every corner in NYC). They will also take your picture at the biometrics, but only for internal use I think.

Yeah, the ones done at the biometrics are only for internal use only, they are sent electronically to the consulate (I believe). I got my passport photos done at Walgreens, 8 bucks for two, I'll prolly go back to them to get the ones for my visa when the time comes :)
