charging a Gameboy SP
« on: June 18, 2004, 05:18:20 PM »
If I buy a UK charger for a Gameboy brought over from the US, will that cause it to blow a circuit or anything? We've tried using my travel transformer/converter and that doesn't work to charge it.  I haven't bought the transformer for my printer yet, but I imagine that would work once I get it.

Any ideas for the short term would be appreciated :)

Missy,

We had the same problem when I bought my husband the SP in the states before it even came out here... I think he ended up going to Game in the end and bought a new charger and has not had a problem since.

You can get car chargers!
I use one for charging our UK Game Boy SP when we travel in the US. Pain to only be able to charge it in the car, but it WILL work! Just plug it in next time you're driving some place.

I actually bought a transformer over here. It was about 10 pounds and was 40 watts I think. I've had it for over a year and have NEVER had a problem using it for my GBA SP. Maybe the transformer you purchased was faulty. I don't know, but trying another would be easier than buying a new charger or a car adaptor. Just my opinion.

I had to grin...with a boy in a car, riding around for hours, you're going to need a car charger anyway.

LOL. Yeah, you will need one for that reason I suppose.

I took a look at my charger from the US before and compared it to my UK bf's and it was the same with voltage and whatnot. He said all you would need is a pin adaptor and that is all. I thought I was going to need a transformer and whatnot for my laptop, but just the pin adaptor was all. I have used that for about 6 months now with no problem. I don't know why I didn't think of that before. So there you go. £3.00 will solve your problem

Fiance was in PC store and found a converter that plugs into a USB port and you charge it that way - was 4 pounds I think.

Thanks for all the ideas though :)
