Cetaphil / Dry Skin Cream
« on: April 02, 2009, 01:07:19 PM »
So, I did find the Cetaphil website for the UK, but unfortunately, they offer the cleanser, which is great, but not the moisturizing cream, which I am missing terribly! My first question is: can anyone confirm that they have seen or bought the cream here in the UK? I didn't find it on the Boots website, and our local Boots is so small that I wouldn't believe they have it there. My skin hasn't been the same.

So, if the answer to question number 1 is NO, then what would you suggest I try instead? DH has had E45 cream before (and we have the lotion at home) but he says it isn't as good. Are there any other special sensitive skin moisturizing creams that you could recommend? Thanks!

I really like E45.  I have very dry skin (combination on my face though) and it works really well.  I like how it doesn't make my face greasy which is why I usually avoid moisturizers.

Back in 2007 when I lived in London I had a friend who was a big Cetaphil fan and she could never find it in the city.  It was always my thought that it just wasn't sold in the UK.

This might sound a little crazy, but vaseline works really well on dry skin.  Don't use too much or you'll end up looking greasy, but it's cheap, doesn't cause breakouts and I never had a problem locating it in stores.

I have combination skin, but have always liked Clinique's Dramatically Different Moisturizing Gel.  It was easy to find in London and I usually just bought it at one the bigger Boots locations.

I've had miracles on horribly dry cracked hands with Palmers Cocoa Butter Formula with vitamin E. It's not medicated or has a huge rep but on my own skin issues I find it working better for me than E45 for healing and moisturising.

Jewlz, any reason that you don't want to just have it shipped from the US if you can't find it here?

I did a quick search for it on ebay.co.uk, and there are several vendors who do from US or Singapore, and most shipping fees don't seem so outragious.
And if you threw a party
Invited everyone you knew
You would see the biggest gift would be from me
And the card attached would say
"Thank you for being a friend!"

Oh, I didn't look there. I found some site where they would ship here, but it was a bit expensive. I will look into that. I'm looking at the Clinique site right now, and I've never tried any of their moisturizers, I could get some Clinique stuff for the same price. Hmmm.... maybe I should try it? The skin on my face isn't extremely sensitive, just extremely dry.

Jewlz -
I cant reccomend another moisturizer since I use Cetaphil as well, but I did want to share (although you may already know) that the other trick with Cetaphil is to not rinse it off, and it will do a great deal of moisturizing for you on its own!  I never wanted to do this as I assumed it would clog pores, but it doesnt at all and its super moisturizing.  Just rub it into your face like you were washing and then wipe it off with a dry towel. I live in Colorado where its been terribly dry and I havent even needed a moisturizer since I started doing this.

E45's good on my nose during / after a cold to get rid of the dryness, but otherwise I only use it on my hands.

I absolutely love Nivea Soft, but then again I mostly use that on hands & feet.  :P

For my face though I've been liking Oil of Olay's sensitive UVA/B Day cream and then the double moisture (I think that's it) sensitive night cream.  Lately I've been using Nivea's Gentle Cleansing wash it seems to be helping to even out my skintone and doesn't overdry my skin, but then again I use a scrub 1-2 times a week...  In a pinch I bought the day cream last time I needed some, its alright, but I don't think I'd really go out of my way to buy it again.  I really miss my Aveeno - they had some fantastic moisturisers, unfortunately they went through an overhall shortly before I got married & moved over and got rid of the moisturiser I loved!   :(

On a side note - I got a sample of the new Avon Solutions range & tried the sensitive creams AM & PM - I had to wash them off as they were waaaaay too moisture rich for me!  I also sampled the Total radiance ones as well and found them to be better suited to me and really good.  (I know nut that I am I keep going on about stupid Avon.  :P)

Have you checked on the Boots website to see where any other locations are and theough to maybe call and ask if they carry it?  Worth a shot to call and ask before heading over to another, bigger Boots only to be disappointed.   :-\\\\

Both my boys have dry skin and our GP recommended Aqueous Cream which is available at any drug store or supermarket. It's in a big white pot with a very plain lable. It's also dirt cheap so worth trying before shelling out for more expensive options.

When I was 5 years old, my mother always told me that happiness was the key to life. When I went to school, they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wrote down ‘happy’. They told me I didn’t understand the assignment, and I told them they didn’t understand life. ~ John Lennon

Hey Jewlz

I posted a bit over the makeup thread. But I'll put the info here as well  ;)

I find the Avène products excellent for sensitive/dry skin:
http://www.eau-thermale-avene.com

A long time family friend is a dermatologist (great one!) and she recommends Avène a lot.

Also, she used to give me this brand as well. Could give it a try:

You can get free samples from them: http://eucerinsamples.cmsdevsite.com/samples.html

Both of them can be found at Boots.

My skin is sooo sensitive that I usually use nothing on it.  (I have rosacea)  However, I was also suffering from a bacterial infection in an area on my face which leaves it very dry when it's healing and my nurse practitioner (in the UK) reccomended Aveeno.  It's pretty cheap and very gentle.  I now use it semi-regularly on dry areas with no reaction at all.
