craigslist question
« on: February 24, 2009, 08:01:33 PM »
I want to buy something used that is very popular and will sell quickly once it's listed. Is there any way I can get email notifications from Craigslist when this item is listed? I thought Google had some tool for this but I'm drawing a blank.

Thanks!
When I was 5 years old, my mother always told me that happiness was the key to life. When I went to school, they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wrote down ‘happy’. They told me I didn’t understand the assignment, and I told them they didn’t understand life. ~ John Lennon

[edit] Never mind.  I just reread your question, and I didn't answer it correctly.  Essentially, my participation up to and including this point has been useless.  Sorry.

Did you think I was selling something? Sorry, maybe I'm not clear enough... I want to know as quickly as possible when this item gets listed without having to check Craigslist throughout the day. It's an item that I would expect to be listed a few times a month perhaps - maybe more maybe less. And I can also check 2 cities (DC and Baltimore).

Just trying to keep myself from being on the computer even more than I am.

I did, but it's not you, it's me.  :)  I read it too fast initially.

I understand.  Maybe you were thinking of Google gadgets for Craigslist monitoring?

I'm sure I'll be cursing your name soon enough when I have to choose between groceries and that REALLY AWESOME DEAL on craigslist, but for now?  ;D

I have been selling quite a bit on craiglist lately.  At first I got the barrage of usual fraudster buyers like "I'm in Nigeria can my executive secretary post you a check and you send your Graco High Chair to my shipping agent."  Of course, I canned those straight away.  Now I get these folks who ask dumb questions about the product over the course of 5 emails and then want to know where I live without committing to an appointment.  I don't tell them but what is their scam?  To know where I live so they can rob me of the Star Wars action figures I posted?

When I post stuff on craigslist, I always write a clear, concise description of the item, including price, and post a couple pictures. I hate when I get emails from people asking things like "how much?" or "wuts it look like?" ....I don't even want to reply. I just want to yell "READ THE DAMN AD!"  [smiley=shout.gif]

I have the impression that Gumtree is used more commonly here. The few times I've popped over to Craigslist London, it's seemed more than a little dead. You may wish to monitor this site, as well.

P.S. Sorry for the necro posting, figured the mention may be useful to someone else in the future, as well. =)
