Honey Baked...
« on: April 08, 2009, 09:15:14 PM »
I want to make a honey baked ham and wasn't sure if I should use a smoked or un-smoked gammon joint. Also, if anyone has a good recipe to share that would be great too. Thanks!

Here comes the ham advice from the Jewish girl, and on a holy night as well! Oy Vey!

I say use an unsmoked joint, and I quite like the Nigella Lawson Coca Cola Ham http://www.channel4.com/food/recipes/chefs/nigella-lawson/ham-in-coca-cola-recipe_p_1.html You can buy store brand cola imo. I made this at Christmas last year for my husband and it was great. Good luck!

I know! I felt guilty just posting it! But my BIL and his GF will be here this weekend and I think I need to do something Easter-y.

Lamb!   :)  My family always had rack of lamb, rabbit chops and baked ham at Easter, then Turkey & Ham at Christmas.  So there is the lamb alternative there, although Ham does seem to be more universally traditional...  ;)

Perfect timing for this thread. We have a nearly full bottle of coke leftover from when we had some guests over. We don't drink it, and it's taking up valuable fridge space. Now I now know what to do with it!  :)

Thanks! I will definitely try the coke ham. This time I chickened out and bought a couple of pieces of pre-cooked gammon that just need to be glazed and baked. I'm pretty new to the world of cooking pork and haven't had much success yet, so I thought this was a safe bet since I'm making it for guests.  ;)
