Best Bathroom Cleaning Product?
« on: April 04, 2009, 06:14:45 PM »
I've just moved here and I am having a heck of time with mildew. The house tends to be damp, especially the bathroom, and I want to start fresh with it. I was going to spray 100% or mildly diluted bleach on the ceiling in the bathroom, but for the grout between the tiles, I hoped someone would have a good recommendation of a product here that they like.

Thank you so much for any advice you can offer!

Dettol Mould [sic] and Mildew Remover worked fine for us.

Cif gel works for me and it's great for the kitchen too.

Cif and a lot of elbow grease. That's my solution.

I also sometimes like that Australian stuff, Kitchen POWER! and Bathroom POWER! It's the way the POWER! looks so forceful. It inspires confidence.

Thank you all for your quick replies. It's my project starting next week when the children are gone for a week to replace caulk around the tub and scrub the bathroom down.

I second this one.   Its great for all over the house, not just the bathroom.  Especially if you have old wood framed windows that aren't competely sealed (we've since replaced our windows, but the frames would mold up in winter due to condensation).  Very minimal work involved to get it clean; just spray and leave it, then wipe / rinse it off.

For mould around sealant or any other plastic-y like material, definitely the Dettol Mould & Mildew.  I recently did the grouting in my bathroom with a Karcher steam cleaner.  No chemicals and came out clean as a whistle.

Crumpled balls of aluminium foil can sometimes get stubborn bits off, especially on grout or metal shower frames.  Of course, it can do a number on old, crumbly caulk or sealant and may scratch delicate surfaces, so test things first.
