Any Jane Austen Fans?
« on: April 09, 2009, 11:39:35 AM »
If so, perhaps you would like to join me at a Pride and Prejudice study day that is being held at Alton Abbey on 23 May.  The topic is "Pride and Prejudice: happily ever after?"

Here is the link to Alton Abbey for more information. Click on the link for events. The cost of the seminar is £15 and they request you bring a packed lunch.  Alton is about an hour and 20 minute train journey from London.

That sounds great but, unfortunately, too far for me.  :(

Loved the novel, but a bit too far for me, too. Hope you have a great time!

Hmm, that looks interesting, I might go.  Do you know how difficult it would be to get there on the train?

I am coming from London, via Clapham Junction and it is a pretty straight shot.  What is your local train station?  PM if you want and I can check it out for you.

I love Jane Austen - but I'm definitely too far away in Florida to go!

From one Jane Austen fan to another I recommend you check out "Pride and Prejudice and Zombies"! I was at first aghast when I heard that someone had "tweaked" P&P to include well, zombies and zombie battles (how dare they)! But I think its a funny take and although its a bit camp I've been entertained so far. :-)

Let me give you a sample of the first line of the book...

"It is a truth universally acknowledged that a zombie in possession of brains must be in want of more brains."

Yeah, everything is a straight shot from London, but I'm in the middle of nowhere, and it's a lot more difficult to get places.  I'd have to go to Woking and wait an hour and a half, not sure that's feasible.   :(

Big Jane Austen and P&P fan here. Too far away in California, but would LOVE to go.
We are a nation that has a government -- not the other way around. And this makes us special among the nations of the earth. Our government has no power except that granted to it by the people. It is time to check and reverse the growth of government, which shows signs of having grown beyond the consent of the governed.

Woking in Surrey?  Trains run straight to Waterloo every twenty minutes or so.  It takes less than half an hour to get into London from Woking.  Where are you?

Somerset.  I'd have to leave from Yeovil, spend 2 hours on the train to Woking, then wait 90 minutes for a train from Woking to Alton.  Trust me, there is no convenient train service to this part of the country.  It's a black hole.

I must admit I am not an Austen fan, but I can't wait for Pride and Prejudice and Zombies.

Zombies make everything better. Now y'all gimme your brains.
And if you threw a party
Invited everyone you knew
You would see the biggest gift would be from me
And the card attached would say
"Thank you for being a friend!"

The South West Trains service from Yeovil calls at Basingstoke which is a 48 minute bus ride from Alton.
