Teething
« on: June 10, 2004, 08:27:29 PM »
How early did your children start teething? I've heard that it's genetic - if you teethed early then it's highly possible your child will as well... and apparently both my husband & I started early. I've also heard a child can start teething as early as 3 months. So - I'm going to put a poll up - please share your experiences with me! We think we might have an early teether... He's almost 3 months old.

She got one tooth in the front at about 4 months, then about three weeks later got 5 at once!

Who voted 3 months or younger! Give me sanity!

He's suddenly very cranky, drooly, chewing on his fists, napping fitfully, chewing on the bottle instead of eating, wanting to eat WAY more often, and did I mention very cranky? :( I thought, hm, perhaps growth spurt? But the drool and the fist-chewing prompted my mother=in-law today into reminding me that David teethed quite early, and that Philip might be having the symptoms weeks before the tooth sctually pops? Blah.

One of my boys teethed at only 3 months but didn't actually cut a tooth until 4 months I think. He cried and fussed and had all the symptoms (fist chewing, drooling, fever..etc) and you could even see and feel the little teeth under the gums and boy was it nice when it finally came through. Well for a moment anyway...then we went through the same with each tooth after. :P

My dad was born with 2 teeth! :o

Have you bought any of those water filled teething rings yet?  We'd put those in the fridge to cool down and Niall would chew on them for hours.  It seemed to comfort him a bit.

Born with 2 teeth! Yikes! Did they fall out soo n after, or did they stay in the whole time?
And it sounds like Philip's doing what your boy did!  :-\\\\

They stayed. :)

My boys both used those too. :) But also just cool wet washcloths seemed to soothe them. I'd rub it over their gums and let them chew on it and it would make them happy...well for a minute anyway. :P

I did! Jessica started everything early! She was three months old when she started teething. Jason on the other hand was about two months late with everything :-\\\\

The probelm with those teething rings is that Philip is still too young to really hold things to his mouth. :( I'm calling the health visitor today for other suggestions - I'll try the washcloth thing as well... from what everyone says, and everything I'm reading, it sounds like this is hos problem. It's just so *early*! And I suppose he'll have symptoms weeks and week before the sucker actually pops through the gums, eh?  :-\\\\

Wash cloths worked wonders, but I also found that the Homeopathic teething powders worked best during the early teething stages. Calpol was virtually useless as was teething gels at that age for my baby. Good Luck!
