UK passport question
« on: April 21, 2009, 01:00:13 PM »
We show her US/UK passport when we check her in at the airline desk, just so they can see that she doesn't need a visa either way she travels. When we go through immigration in the US we show her US passport. When we go through immigration in the UK we show her UK passport. When we travel everywhere else in the world she travels on her UK passport, we only use her US passport when we go to the US.

No, the law has been changed and allows dual citizenship the only way they care is if you specifically renounce your citizenship in person to a recognized government official.

Thanks, that helps.

One other wee question.  I got UK citizenship in Aug 2007 but was unable to apply for my passport before leaving for Uganda for 2 years.  I'll be submitting my application tomorrow at the British High Commission.  Should have done it much earlier but I was under the impression that I had to be physically in the UK to apply.  Now I'm getting nervous that there was a time limit between getting citizenship and getting passport.  Anybody know offhand or should I get my lazy butt onto the internet to check??

If there were a limit, British-from-birth people wouldn't be able to get a passport as adults! ;)
Arrived as student 9/2003; Renewed student visa 9/2006; Applied for HSMP approval 1/2008; HSMP approved 3/2008; Tier 1 General FLR received 4/2008; FLR(M) Unmarried partner approved (in-person) 27/8/2009; ILR granted at in-person PEO appointment 1/8/2011; Applied for citizenship at Edinburgh NCS 31/10/2011; Citizenship approval received 4/2/2012
FINALLY A CITIZEN! 29/2/2012

How to apply for a UK passport from Uganda: http://ukinuganda.fco.gov.uk/en/passports/ doesn't appear to be a limit as to when to apply.

Ta.   :D Just wondering because I know I am supposed to travel on a UK passport once I'm a citizen.  But I came to Uganda on my US one.  Hope to go back home on my UK one!

There is no rule that says you are 'supposed' to travel on your UK passport.  But you will need to have one to present when you come back to the UK.

But if for some reason my application gets screwed up I could just come back in on my ILR stamp, right?

No. You're a citizen now, so you can't enter as a permanent resident.
And if you threw a party
Invited everyone you knew
You would see the biggest gift would be from me
And the card attached would say
"Thank you for being a friend!"

Went to the British High Commission (Uganda) this morning with my application.  Really nice people there!  They gave me an interview appt for tomorrow morning.  They expect my passport to be ready in about 2 weeks. I was really nervous that they'd be sending my US passport, expired US passport with all the UK visas, and my naturalisation certificate to London.  But, nope, they do the passports right there!  Cost was the equivalent of $200.

Can't wait till  I get that sweet little burgundy number in my hot little hands!   ;D

My interview Friday morning was fine.  At the end of the interview I was told my passport and my husband's renewal would be ready to pick up Monday morning.

So, I've GOT MY UK PASSPORT!!  Woohoo!!!!!!!!!!   ;D ;D ;D 8)
