Action: Issues with Couriers/Expeditors in the US
« on: April 27, 2009, 06:42:46 PM »
As some of you maybe aware, we have had an on going issue with certain situations that have occurred with couriers/expeditors in the US.  We have taken forward the issue based on the experiences that have been shared here and made a set of recommendations that we are advocating for with the larger immigration community.

The main crux of our issue is that the relationship between UKBA and Couriers needs to be more formal, needs to follow the UK law though it may not directly fall under the jurisdiction of the UK and that people should be provided with a "premium" service directly with UKBA as an option instead of having to resort to unregulated 3rd parties.

We (JohnL) presented our case to ARIA, a well respected group representing immigration advisers in the UK and our issue was very warmly received and understood.

We have been added to the agenda of the next ILPA Family and General Committee meeting on 11th May.  We will be presenting our case, much as we did to ARIA.

After feedback from the ILPA we will hopefully move towards a formal dialogue with UKBA and other immigration groups in order to push forward making the situation better for all involved.  If anyone has any questions, or wants to know the details of the presentations we have and will be making, feel free to send me a personal message.

We always need further examples of real world experiences with couriers where there have been issues or difficulties arising.  We do not directly use people's names nor do we normally name the specific courier, but we do need to know they are real situations in order to make our point with the appropriate groups.  Again, just send me a PM.
WARNING My thoughts and comments are entirely my own.  Especially when it comes to immigration and tax advice, I am not a professional.  My advice is to seek out professional advice.  Your mileage may vary!
