Are there any Americans in Warwickshire please?!
« on: April 09, 2009, 10:46:54 PM »
Hi,

We are moving to Leamington Spa, around July. We would love to know about any American meet up groups etc!

I've already found that ebay UK sells some of the food we'll miss, like graham crackers, etc.  But it would be great to know some fellow Americans!

I'll be moving to Northamptonshire sometime this summer/fall, so that's kinda close :) I'm not sure what kind of groups there are for that area yet, but it's not really that far from where me and my fiance will be living; I still remember going to have a gander at Warwick Castle during my first visit (didn't go inside, it was a bit expensive since we couldn't get our money's worth--had to go pick up kiddlies from school).

There are a few of us in Coventry and quite a few in Birmingham as well.  There's a stall in Coventry Market that sells US goodies, so it's worth popping over from Leamington on the number 12 bus.

Hi Across the Pond,

My husband and I lived in Leamington Spa for about 3 years but moved to Surrey about a year ago. It's a really cute little town with beautiful gardens. Feel free to PM with any questions about the area. As far as American food, the best selection I found is in Selfridge's department store in Birmingham.

I think there are some other Americans on here that currently live in Leamington Spa.

Are you moving for work?

Hi,

We are moving to Leamington Spa, around July. We would love to know about any American meet up groups etc!

I just moved here from Virginia nearly 3 weeks ago. I am not far from Leamington Spa (I just just there last week and if you want a nice place to eat, try the Seasons restaurant. The owner won't find you odd if you ask for a pot of tea and several glasses of ice to make your own sweet iced tea. I do it ALLLL the time now http://www.seasons-restaurant.co.uk/ [nofollow] ). Leamington Spa is about an hour away from me. I went there specifically to shop at Bravissimo http://www.bravissimo.com [nofollow] (a nice shop for gals who are a little Top Heavy, if you know what I mean). I don't live too far from Birmingham. I don't know how to drive here yet, but my fiance' will drive me to met up with other homesick Americans. Drop me a note when you get to the UK. :)

I live in Nuneaton. I've lived here since 2002 and am now a British citizen. Maybe we'll run into each other one day. :)

I am moving to Kenilworth in June which is basically right next door to Leamington Spa. My husband has been living there since March. Where are you from?

Hello!

I live in Leamington Spa with my British boyfriend. It is an amazing spot - I hope you like it. Actually, if you want help with finding a place to live, do get in touch - L.K.Wible@warwick.ac.uk. The way to look for places online is through newcomer link: http://www.rightmove.co.uk [nonactive] . You'll probably find that even if it looks kind of far away on the map, it's still probably quite close to the town centre but, of course, some parts are nicer than others. I don't know of any groups, but we'd love to take you for a pint.

If you like tennis, bring your rackets. Also, there's a great kayak club.

All the best,
Wible

I used to live in south Warwickshire, just off of the M40, between Warwick/Leamington and Banbury for eight years.  It's a lovely part of the country.

We left England in 2004 and miss many things about that area.

Good luck - it sounds like a few locals have already begun to chime in!
