Kings of Leon
« on: April 23, 2009, 11:54:46 PM »
Hi!

We're looking for 2 Kings of Leon tickets for June in London.  Since it's sold out, we've been looking at ebay and gumtree.  Have had lots of experience e-baying in the States, but none here.  Anyone have a feel for if it's pretty safe to buy tix through them , ie. that they are likely to be genuine and not fakes? Any other suggestions? Or does anyone know someone?!  :)

Thanks!

I bought Glasvegas tickets from a guy on Gumtree, and it was totally genuine.   All depends on the seller!

Worse case scenario is that you buy a ticket from a tout near the entrance.  I have done this more times than I care to remember for festivals and gigs.  You do pay a bit more, but it depends on how desperate you are to see them...

Man, I'm trying to get tickets to that concert, too! Can't believe it was sold out! We may just go hang around the stadium that evening, too....

I'd never buy tickets from e-bay or from a professional seller on Gumtree or anywhere else.  There are a number of ticket exchange sites which are reliable - seatwave is probably the best.  If you buy from e-bay you are risking a lot...not least getting a fake ticket.  The advantage with gumtree is that you are likely to get some posts from people who are fans who genuinely can't go and are trying to swap, and they are less likely to be asking for a huge mark up.

Personally, I think touts are scum, and I'd rather not line the pockets of someone who illicitly buys stacks of tickets in order to fleece genuine fans.  But that's just me.

Thanks all.

Vicky, I had never heard of seatwave before.  I am checking it out now.  May bite the bullet and pay the crazy prices.  Aargh.  I think I would be more comfortable using them than ebay or paying a scalper at the arena.

For tout read scalper.  Please don't do it.

If you mean the touts hanging about outside the concert, and those around the theaters, etc., I never do it.  Not just for 'moral' reasons, but also afraid of getting ripped off and ending up with a counterfeit ticket.  Will probably do seatwave, though, as I have checked out their website and it looks pretty on the up and up.  I guess it's just another form of scalping, as the tickets are really marked up, but at least I will know they're genuine.

Well I mean any of them really. If there is a big mark up then it means they are scalpers. Seatwave also will have people who are just fans who can't go.  Discussion boards are usually good for that as well.

It does not bother me....If I am desperate enough to see a group....then I will pay whatever.  I have bought from Ebay plenty of times...more than 30 occassions at least.  Never had a problem...it is luck of the draw.  Sometimes tho you will not recieve the tickets straight away as some venues do not release them until a few weeks beforehand...but keep in constant touch with the seller.  Their seller rating will tell you how genuine they are.

Don't you see that the more people buy from touts the less tickets will be available at reasonable prices?  You are perpetuating the problem.
