Blackpool targets the French

Amusing advert and approach but i do feel sorry for any French (or anyone else) that goes there - bound to be a disppointment.

Anyone else been? apart from a stag/hen weekend, a day on the rides or a night to see the Illuminations i found it grim. I recall sitting on the seafront for an hour or two people watching - seemed to be a very limited gene pool in Blackpool... :-X

Ha! I think it's funny! I'm going to Blackpool this summer and I can't wait! :)

I like Blackpool.  Stanley Park is lovely.  I like the Tower, especially the Tower Ballroom.
I love the trams.  There is usually a good show or two to see.

I spent a week there once, a little over 20 years ago.

The trams are an attraction if you like that sort of thing (as I do), and a slow evening drive along the Golden Mile to see the illuminations is a must-do activity, but other than that it's really not much different from any one of dozens of other seaside towns.   Not that that's a complaint, since the whole corny fun-of-the-fair seaside resort thing is one of the best things about Britain in my opinion.

The place is desperately short of decent places to eat. There are few decent restaurants and mostly pretty crummy, dingly cafes and fish n chips shops.

One of the things I tell my call centre trainees to avoid is saying to people from Poulton-le-Fylde, "That's near Blackpool, isn't it?" They don't like it!

We've had a few weekends in Blackpool with the kids in the last twenty years and I have to say we had a really good time.  And we're not really 'seaside town' type people.  The Tower is worth a visit and the Pleasure Beach isn't bad as those things go. The kids loved it.

I had a great time in Blackpool last summer.  I think it is a brilliant place, though badly in need of some TLC.

As well as the Pleasure Beach there is also a fantastic Doctor WHo exhibition which shouldn't be missed.

And we found some nice places to eat and drink.  The trick is to go off the front and away from the Hen/Stags, and it gets much, much better. The locals are also really friendly, especially when they realise that you are not just a standard lager swilling pishhead.

I assume that's the northwestern equivalent of saying, "Frinton on Sea - Isn't that just like Clacton?"   ;D

It's old, but I'll wheel it it out...
