Newcastle

Husband is going for a few days starting next week, and since I am really feeling like a change of pace, I am thinking of coming with him.

I know there are quite a few people on here who are from Newcastle or the surroundings, so please any advice on stuff to do or see or areas to wonder around in. Good eats recommendations would be great too!

I'll be mostly on my own, if that makes a difference.

I've heard the Tyneside Cinema is a great place to see an indie film and has a nice cafe.
I enjoy just walking around the city centre and doing some people watching, there are some good shops around there, too.
I don't get to spend much time there, so hopefully someone else will have some suggestions. (PM Kayla, if you like, she doesn't check the threads very often, but usually has some great ideas for places to visit, she will probably respond to a PM) Also, check our meet-up thread, there were quite a few places mentioned in there.

Starting at Grey's Monument walk down Grey Street.  William Gladstone, a British PM in the C19th, said it was 'the finest street in England'.  You can continue down Grey Street until it becomes Dean Street to Newcastle Quayside.  If the weather's right you can get some great pics of Newcastle's bridges.

A Novocastrian always feels as those they are coming home when they cross the Tyne Bridge from Gateshead back into Newcastle.

There are some good Italian restaurants in Newcastle and the city has a small China Town, close to Newcastle United's ground - St James' Park.
