Wachovia in London

I just came across an old post here that says that Wachovia no longer has a branch in London, but on Wachovia's website, it mentions their London branch.  Can anyone clear this up for me?  Is there a branch in London and if I am a US Wachovia customer, could I do free transfers between my US and UK account (if I got an account at the London Wachovia branch also)?

Whoa! This would be great if so!! I am a Wachovia customer, too. I just assumed they didn't even exist outside the US!

Fingers crossed for us!   I may just pop into the branch near my house and inquire there also.  I'll let you know if I find out anything off the board...

Cool. I'm calling them now in fact! This will simplify things for me this summer if so!

Just to follow up- I called both Wachovia and Wells Fargo (since we can now use their ATM machines due to the pending merger) and neither has - nor ever has had according to the reps- locations outside the US.

Oh well... would have been nice to save some dough!

I remember searching out this mysterious London Wachovia when I was first moving over here for grad school, and never got anywhere.

Wachovia did tell me that they had a 'special relationship' with Barclay's (or maybe RBS?), and that supposedly I could get wire transfers faster or something, but frankly it didn't seem to amount to much. It certainly didn't help me get a Barclay's account when I came over--I think they denied me straight away. In the end, I just went with the bank where I had the easiest time getting an account. That happened to be NatWest since there was a branch on campus.

But I knew it was too good to be true! 

DH has a Barclay's account - I'll have him look into this mysterious special relationship, but wont hold my breath on that one either.  Thanks for doing the legwork, Beth!

I tried to setup a wire from my Wachovia acct to my Barclays acct the other day and they told me I had to come into the branch, that there was no other way to setup a wire.  Once it's setup I could do it by phone, but the initial setup had to be done in branch.  Oh well!
