YEAH!  Will you be flying through Atlanta or the Twin Cities, it would really be a small world if we ended up in the same airport at the same time?

That would be a coincidence!  But, no, this is just a mini-meet-up for us - we are meeting in DC for a long weekend.  13 more sleeps now!

Ha, I just moved from DC to MN to spend some time with the family before heading over seas.  Let me know if you want any suggestions on places to eat.  There is a wonderful restaurant for brunch in DuPont Circle called Rosemary Thyme, that isn't too bad on prices.  It is around 18th and T not exactly sure on the letter street so you may want to look it up.

Cheers!

I'm going to have to go back to the US next month (BOO) and my boyfriend won't be able to come stay with me until this summer (double BOO). I'm going to plant a  small garden with some of his favorite vegetables that don't really grow well in the UK but do grow well in Florida, like tomatoes, bell peppers, etc, so that we can have them to eat while we're living together. I think I'll take daily or weekly pictures of their growth, too, so that it'll seem like we're doing it together. Lame? Sure! But with tasty results!
If we called them Sad Meals, no one would buy them.

Another thing my boyfriend and I do is play the "if we were together tonight, what would we be doing" game. One of us (usually me) poses the question, and we discuss how the day would be different if we were living together. What we'd cook, what we'd do, what we'd watch on TV, etc. It's a fun game for us, but it's not for everyone. :D

After we proposed when I was here last....leaving was very very very hard.  So...I took a couple pieces of paper and tore it into little scraps, then I wrote I Love You on them and hid them all over his house hahahah and I MEAN ALL OVER! They were in his hamper and in his silverware drawer...and in the bottom of his tea conatainer...and in his pants pockets LOL it was great!

When we were still long distance we would turn on the webcam on Friday and leave it on until Sunday, I think watching each other sleep was a nice way to feel close together.  WOW that sounds really creepy to me now  ;D

That is SO sweet!  I'll be away from DH for most of the summer, so I might have to try that out on him.

Also sweet, but I definitely see how it can sound creepy to others.  Great ideas here. :)

We also send "love boxes" which are like little care packages to eachother every few months. Usually they are full of the food that we cant get in the other's country, but there is always a little something special in there, and I am in sappy heaven when I get a love box!

I do that too :) I'm about to send mine one for Valentine's Day.

Right now, we have a few things that we like doing, other than Skype and webcam.

1. Play word games
2. Have "debates" on English words. Why does aluminum rile them up so much? Never have I seen this person get so angry :)
3. Send videos of each other. Paul and his friends play Rock Band, and I got it for Christmas. They'll all post it on Facebook and make comments. We also took pictures and dressed ridiculously. It was lots of fun.
4. Watch shows. Yeah, this one is kind of hard to do, but it's hard to find shows we both watch and like. Opposites attract.

I think the biggest one is write letters. Ironically, he makes music pieces for me to listen to and icons. I draw pictures and write stories. You wouldn't think that helps really...

my boyfriend and i are both lucky to be able to leave skype on all day while we're at work. we don't talk every second of the day, but we're able to type messages to each other every half hour or so to update the other on what we're doing, when we're leaving for lunch, etc.  it helps us feel more connected to each other's everyday life...i probably know more about his work life now than i did when he was living here in boston.  it's also nice because when 5pm comes for me, i can close my office door and turn on the camera to say goodnight if i know i won't be home until after he's gone to bed (hate the time difference during the weekday!).

on weekends, if at all possible, we try to coordinate our schedules to overlap.  we may both bring our laptops into the kitchen and he will cook dinner while i cook lunch, or we'll just turn the videocamera on while one of us is working or whatever.  it helps to be able to see each other do day to day activities even though we're not with each other everyday.  the cooking together thing has been the best!

oh, and flickr has been a great way for us to keep up with each other.  we both have accounts and have been taking a lot of photos whenever we're out with friends, walking around town, etc.  it's been a good way for us to share what we're doing when we're away from the computer.

I have a little notebook next to my bed where I jot down letters to my fiance when I miss him a lot. I was trying to keep it a secret until I'd filled it up, but he noticed it last time he visited, and he confessed he does the same thing! ;D And he came to visit a couple of weeks before Valentine's Day this year. We went to the mall, and he made me wait outside of Target for him. I knew he was getting me a present but I didn't know what it was, but I figured he'd give me it before the visit was over. But he didn't. On Valentine's Day we were talking on MSN, and he told me to look above my pantry :) He hid the bag with my present up there! It was so sweet.

I took your idea and did it for this last visit though he lives with a flatmate so I had to be selective where I put them so only he would find them.  He has found all but two as of now and my fav. one was put under the shoes laces but above the tongue of his boots, I thought that was clever!

I wish I had seen this thread and left Tim love notes all over his house :(

But I did decorate the front door on Valentine's day, and we moved most of the lovenotes onto the living room door, and he looks at it every day :)

I also filled his freezer before I left with his favourite foods!

I'm trying to think of ways to make the next two months pass faster, but it doesn't help when neither of us have had time to even talk lately!
