P60 or W2?
« on: May 17, 2009, 08:34:12 PM »
Hello,
I am new to your site and would like to say Hi, and glad you are here!
I have been reading through your tax topic's and need to make sure i'm getting this right before i file my taxes. I feel my case is straight forward, i only work and that's it!
First, i know i need to file, and meet the two questions on the 2555ez, about how many days that i have been here etc.
My income in uk£'s has been diffrent every year (the highest was this year at about 11,000 £), and i had asked someone if i had to file my taxes and they said no! but now i know i am going to do 3 years back filing, so i have to do this year, 2008, 2007, but what i want to know is this, when I file my forms, we have a P60 here, unlike the w2 forms, and also the income earned on the W2 is from Jan-Dec, not so with the P60, which is from April-April, so i want to know how do i go about making it all fit!?  If i tally my income from Jan-Dec, the P60 won't show the same income, is this right?? and if so then should I make copies of my pay slips to show income earned....i'm a bit confused, and have need to get answers fast, beause the due date is fast aproaching :)
Thanks for listening
V

You are right, the P60 shows income from April to April. You need to show income from Jan to Dec to the IRS. I've never attached any proof of UK income.I just tell the truth and they take my word for it.

I think if i remember rightly that at the top of the tax forms. Not done mine yet for this year :)  there is a spot where you can mark from such a such date to another such and such a date. I just use the tax year here for those dates . Makes life a lot easier . :)
So far the ten years i've been here they've not bothered me YET. lol
