Wedding gown shopping?
« on: April 14, 2009, 09:21:03 AM »
Anyone have any good suggestions for where I can look for a dress in London?
Thanks <3

Edited to add: I'd like something short!

I don't know London places but, after the past year, I do know wedding dresses! And I know that any suggestions are going to really depend on your budget. That may be personal information that you don't want to give out, but there's a whole spectrum of wedding dresses from off-the-rack stuff to high-end designer stuff available, the same as in the US.

I found one I want here in the US but I'm scared of the VAT when they ship it to me. This is my second wedding  ::) and I already had the 4 figure gown so I really want to keep it low key this time. I do want short and that's proving hard to find in the UK.

Have you done a Google UK search for the gown you found in the US? You might just find it's available over here too!

My experience is the same as Chary's - you can find any kind of dress you want, you just need to spend serious time in front of the PC searching.

I paid £20 VAT on my last shipment from the US.

We were charged £80 VAT on the last package I sent over. :(

There is always Monsoon, they usually have some short styles,,

But if you want to go fun and retro these two are my favorites,

I saw some really cute, short dresses in Brides (UK) magazine. They were by Jasmine Design, Charlotte Balbier and the cutest one, imho, was one by Forever Yours with a layered skirt and silver beading on the bodice for £369. Not sure where you can find these but if you went on to their websites I'm sure they would have links to retailers in the London area :) Good luck!

Ooh also keep your eye out for bridesmaid dresses :) Lots of which are short, reasonably inexpensive and can be done in white/ivory/whatever colour your heart desires x

Thanks everyone

I'm having it custom made in America! It worked out to be cheaper and now I can chose exactly how I want it to look. I would have loved a Candy A but I can't afford that kind of monies. My entire Wedding won't cost what that dress would have cost us.

Stop Staring dresses only fit tall girls lol. I have ONE that fits but the rest never fit my short waisted, big boobed, 5 foot tall body.

Stop Staring does have some fun outfits. I keep meaning to get something of theirs for my daughters to make them model for me, LOL.

Oh, and for future reference in case any other brides are looking for something short, but fun and funky, I remembered another designer, Stephanie James. http://www.stephaniejamescouture.com/
