canned food in carry-on?
« on: June 02, 2009, 04:14:22 AM »
Has anyone tried bringing canned food through in their carry-on?  I know it sounds crazy, but I have a friend who would like me to bring him some canned chilies from Texas; there just doesn't seem to be any more room left in my to-be checked (though I'll make room if I have to!).  I googled it and didn't get anything definitive--I figured if there was anyone who would have experience with bringing food back and forth from the US, it would be you guys! ;D

I don't think you could b/c it would be over the limits for carry-on liquids.  I don't think they differentiate on the containers.  Looks like you'll have to shuffle some of the packing.

Yeap, like Cadenza says, its probably considered a liquid. I wouldn't risk it if its something you really want, there's a good chance it will be snagged, even if its sealed.  Better off finding somewhere in the checked bag to squeeze it in.
I've never gotten food on my underpants!

Heck, they'd probably consider a can some kind of offensive weapon in your checked bags. A missile, perhaps.

Not a problem in checked bags, though. I once sat next to a woman smuggling Heinz Beanz to her daughter in the States. The US kind just wasn't cutting it for her!

You're allowed if it's under 3oz, like Cadenza + phatbeetle said.
And if you threw a party
Invited everyone you knew
You would see the biggest gift would be from me
And the card attached would say
"Thank you for being a friend!"
