Upakweship Quotes Anyone?
« on: June 28, 2009, 07:17:23 PM »
Hello,

My wife and I will be moving from the San Francisco Bay area to Hull in the northeastern part of England.  We are interested in anybody that has used or got shipping quotes from Upakweship.  We will be moving a small apartment of about 850 sq ft. +/- another 50 sq ft. or so of miscellaneous items from the garage, etc.

Also, any input regarding your experiences would be helpful, even if it's with another company.  We have just sent off for a quote.  We are trying to get an idea of cost involved.

Thank you for your efforts!

Regards,

Dave and Jenni

I had a very good experience with them.  Their price was very good and I liked the service.  You have an added bonus that I didn't have in that you live in one of the shipping areas they use, so you should be able to get a lower price already.  I shipped from Idaho and it cost a lot more.  I got quotes on various situations and remember that shipping from San Fran and LA were much less expensive.

My stuff did take a good chunk of time to arrive as it was held up in the UK port, but all arrived safely except for one dish I packed poorly.  If I had any questions or concerns, Alison resolved them quickly.  Email her and she's usually pretty good at responding.  Best of luck!

I too had a very good experience with UPak, and Alison was fantastic. Always easy to get hold of and answered every question and concern. I was only shipping a max size volume of 100 cubic feet of boxes, not a whole household's worth of goods, so you will be getting a different quote package I would say, but mine seemed a very generous volume allowance for a set price that was cheaper yet if I did my own drop-off. At the UK end they brought it straight to my living accomodations with fast and courteous service, after it cleared the port procedures very quickly.

As the name says, you pack your own stuff, so breakages are down to your own prowess in taking care you pack and pad well (try E-Bay's Sellers forum board for great tips on how to pack so that even a good drop-kick cannot break a vase, hahhah!), but I found only one broken pane of glass in an (empty) picture frame, and everything else was great.
