Oh my goodness, same here. I'm glad Paris got a chance to speak. Even though she broken down, I imagine she won't regret stepping up there and taking the mic.

So much for that.   ::)  I wonder if the little one wanted to speak or was asked to do so?  Poor wee soul.

I wondered the same thing. My heart broke for her.

I believe she asked because it didn't seem like to the family or anyone else that they were expecting her to speak.

I heard the excerpt of her speaking about her Dad on NPR on the way home from work this evening and it made me cry..... :( Poor thing!

I really hope the media leaves those children alone.

Can't take my eyes off the memorial service, find it incredibly sad.

However, wtf are his kids doing there?  Didn't he specifically wish for them to lead private lives?  Hasn't the littlest "Blanket" never been publicly exposed?  This seems to blatantly go against what he'd want.

Regardless of the fact that they are celebrities and he wanted them to be protected from the media and the public, they are still his children first and foremost. If your father or mother died, wouldn't you want to go to the Memorial service?

So much for that.   ::)  I wonder if the little one wanted to speak or was asked to do so?  Poor wee soul.

According to Kenny Ortega, who was the director of the entire Memorial service and of his London performances, and Larry King, none of the children were expected to attend the Memorial but they wanted to. They also confirmed that Paris Jackson was not expected or encouraged to speak but while they were all up on the stage, she told Janet that she wanted to.

Personally, I was not surprised that she was the one, out of his children, who spoke publicly. I think a lot of people assumed that, if anyone, it would be his eldest son but girls/women are always more strong in that way than boys/men. Plus, from their photos, she struck me as the most fierce and she displayed a lot of strenth during the entire Memorial ceremony. I hope that strength will get her and her brothers through this difficult time.

Love it!
When I was 5 years old, my mother always told me that happiness was the key to life. When I went to school, they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wrote down ‘happy’. They told me I didn’t understand the assignment, and I told them they didn’t understand life. ~ John Lennon

Great post! I watched it late the night of the memorial online. I knew from news clips that Paris ended up speaking so I kept an eye out for her. I noticed her getting Janet's attention and them speaking. It did look like she was asking to speak and Janet asked her a few times if she was sure before talking to the other family members about it.

There are some pictures of the kids out without masks while with MJ while he was still alive, so it's not completely against everything he tried to do for them.

I thought the memorial was classy and very well done. I cried through half of it.
