What a run around. I read up on non-refundable tickets and you are in fact entitled to a refund of the taxes and service fees. Makes sense that you shouldn't be able to be taxed for an item or service you are returning. Sounds simple right, the taxes and fees should be returned to the credit card. Of course it's not as simple as it seems. I booked my tickets through Orbitz.. what a pain. Never again. They keep pushing me off on the airlines then the airlines send me back to them.. nightmare circle.

I haven't cancelled the tickets at this point, in part because of the nonsense about the money and in part because it just makes me sad, and seems so final. Blah.  :-[

Wow, and the taxes are usually like, more than half the cost of the tickets, so that would be a pretty decent refund.

How long ago did you buy the tickets?  Could you file a dispute with the bank over it?

Adding to the good luck wishes - and I second the "elliott.org" website.  The guy is amazing - and even if he can't do anything directly for you, he can often point you in the right direction.
Good Luck!!

Thanks ladies. I found out some of the info about the taxes on Elliot's site, but luckily I didn't need him. I first was told when I called that since it was non-refundable I got nothing back.. wow. Different answer in every dealing I had with Orbitz. I kept talking and finally the representative found some notes on my account that the previous rep had spoken with BMI and they would refund the taxes. Though they couldn't tell me how much it will be, said my credit card would be refunded that within 30 days. Just thankful I get something back! Still a big loss, but that's what happens I guess.
