Getting a Pet Passport based on an EU998?
« on: July 20, 2009, 08:31:19 PM »
My dog and two cats just made it into the UK.  I would like to get them an EU Pet Passport, which I believe will allow them to enter the UK again as long as I keep up with their rabies shots.  Has anyone used their EU998 paperwork to obtain a Pet Passport, or is it necessary to start the paperwork from scratch?

I too would be interested to know about this. I would be taking my cat to the EU countries and back again into the UK, don't know if that would make a difference than if it were for US travel?

We started our cats on the moving process in March 2008, moved in November 2008 and my cats got their passports in March 2009 just before their US rabies shots (they were 1 year ones) expired.

I brought all of my original paperwork with me to the vet, they reviewd the info, checked their respective microchips and vaxed them.  They're now all set for 3 years.  It was cheap, too.  The passport itself was around 40 pounds or so.  Easy AND cheap is a combo I like, especially after 7+ months of freakouts about doing something wrong and having them unable to enter the UK.

I don't plan to ever use the passports to travel with them, but just in case there's some reason they need to leave the UK, we figured it was easiest to have current documentation of their status.

You don't need to start over unless their rabies vax has expired.

When we brought our two cats in for their rabies boosters, the vet suggested we get EU pet passports for them (using our established paperwork) just in case.  We didn't, because we generally don't travel with our cats, but our vet made it seem that with the EU998 getting the pet passport was no big deal at all.

Oh, that's very good news!  I was afraid it would be one of those things I would have to really harass the vet about (I guess I've been doing a bit too much vet harassing lately. . .) or do right away.  I'll just talk to them when I take them in for their updates!
