FLR(M) at Croydon - Double Check on Public Funds
« on: July 30, 2009, 12:40:46 PM »
Hi,

After a mad scramble I have finally managed to get a permanent job sorted out which starts on the 10th August. Just in time really seeing as my fiance's visa runs out on the 1st September. We are having our ceremony on the 17th August and have an appointment for the express service in Croydon on the 28th August.

I am now in the process of getting evidence together and double checking our budget to make sure we cover the maintainence side of things. I have had to take a basic job to get us through the visa process so after tax I will have £1065 each month.

Our main monthly commitment is Rent which comes to £500 per month. This amount includes Council Tax and all household utilities. We have no other fixed monthly commitments. So on the face of it we seem to have cleared the maintainence hurdle but I want to be extra sure and try to have more of a buffer each month. This is where the Public Funds element comes in.

On the income stated above I have worked out that I (not taking into account my partner as of course they are not eligible for public funds and can't be taken into account in any application I make) can claim Working Tax Credit of £56 per month and Housing Benefit of £152 per month. So overall my after tax income with all of the above would be £1273 which is better. But when it comes to the face to face appointment we have booked will the WTC and HB claim complicate issues on the day and may we face the risk of the PEO turning round and telling us that they need to make further enquiries which means we could be waiting several weeks rather than the same day.

We don't really want to pay £665 for the same day service if they will turn around and say it will take several weeks anyway because of the Public Funds element. Hopefully if I can bring along letters for both the HB and WTC stating the payments, etc. it should be OK but would be great to get some advice on the above to bring the worry levels down a bit.

Thanks,

Mark
