Transfer of Residence permit?

My fiancee is moving over to the UK in a few weeks (under a fiance visa) and will be shipping some of her stuff (nothing massive, just a couple of boxes) by sea.  Someone mentioned to her that we might have to pay customs tax on the stuff unless we get a Transfer of Residence(?) form/document filled out? 

I don't suppose anyone knows anything about this?

It's been 3 years since we moved but we didn't pay tax on anything and never filled out a form with our moving company.

We had all our boxes numbered and what was in each box.

We didn't have to pay customs duty on any of our personal belongings as long as we owned them for more than 6 months. Same applied to when we flew over.

Have you done a search on UK customs? I'm pretty sure I found the info on their site.

I was told -- and it was also borne out as true in my experience of shipping my stuff -- that there is no customs or taxes to pay on used personal belongings that are older than six months old. I had to pay nothing at all except a "port fee" of under £40 when my shipment arrived in dock.

As long as it is made clear on the shipping forms the shipping company have you fill out, and on the inventory list, that all of the stuff is just "personal effects" and not new goods or goods intended for any kind of resale, you don't owe a thing.

You don't have to pay anything on goods you already own, but in 2003 there were a lot of customs forms to be completed. I don't know if it's changed since then. Back then, my moving company did it all for me so I didn't have to bother with it.

we went with a shipper and we just needed to fill out the contents of each box and some general paperwork. we did it freight and one surprise charge was a homeland security fee- apparently they "randomly inspect" shipments to ensure that they are not carrying anything suspicious. although i was told this fee was levied only if an inspection took place, everyone i have chatted with had to pay the fee. we shipped about 16 boxes for $1000USD.
The economy fell apart. Then we moved to Brighton. Disappointing- yes. Any regrets? No. I am interested in meeting Sussex people and any other souls that have a shared mission of getting to know the rest of the world better. My Blog: daveavenue.

Our moving company did it all, too and we didn't pay anything.  We definitely filled out a bunch of forms (including the one linked above) stating that these were all used personal items that were being moved to our new home in the UK.  We had a fairly vague inventory but a specific list of serial numbers of any electronics included (so customs could determine that they were, in fact, older than 6 months).
