A letter from your landlord is required to show that you BOTH have permission to live there.

Does it matter for the outcome of the visa if the spouse doesn't come? What if they aren't able to come with you, does it affect whether your scrutinized more or not? Just wondering.

It's my understanding that if the spouse doesn't attend, the spouse would need to provide a letter saying that s/he supports the application...I haven't seen that written anywhere here but on this web-site, but that's, as I said, my understanding.

My DH came with me when we did my FLR in person since it was the day after we got married and we were together anyway and he just happened to come with me...we certainly got plenty of smiles and congratulations when people realised just how newly wed we were!

When I made my FLR(M) appointment we weren't sure DH would be able to make it, so I asked them on the phone.  Granted they have been known to lead people astray, but they told me that I needed a signed letter DATED ON THE DAY OF THE APPOINTMENT from my husband saying he supports the application and giving a phone number where he could be contacted if they had any questions.  The operator suggested giving his mobile phone number and telling him to have it on him and be able to answer it all day.  He was able to come in the end though so I'm not sure if what she said holds true.  She did highly suggest he come with me so we decided it was worth him missing work.

Just check the guidance page for the FLR(M) application:

If you apply in person, both parties should attend the public enquiry office. If this is not possible, the settled spouse (permanent resident) must provide a letter stating that they support the marriage application. The letter must be signed and dated, with a daytime telephone number where they can be contacted if necessary.
