Hi all,

I haven't been on here for a while (my little boy has been keeping me very occupied in addition to my studies), but my hubby S has been asking for info recently. We wanted to thank you for your helpful replies as we went to the PEO on Wednesday and got the ILR granted there and then :)

Since I've been here in the UK since September 2005 (as a student then switched to spouse two years ago) I've been told that I can apply for citizenship. I got married in May 2006. When it asks you on the form when you intended to make a long-term commitment to stay should I count the period from when I got married, or when I first entered the UK? The rest of the form is no problem, I just want to get it sent as soon as possible before the new legislation kicks in!

All the best,

Zingyscholar  :-*

Congratulations!  I received mine in the post on the 27th.

I also entered the country on a student visa, but in August 2005.  I got married in June 2007.  When it comes to filling out that form, I will be using the day I became resident in the UK, which is the day I arrived on my student visa as, since that time, I've only been out of the country on holidays.  In other words, I've been a full-time resident of the UK since the day I arrived in August 2005...I guess I haven't looked at the form lately.  i didn't thnk it asked about when you intended to make a long-term commitment, but rather, when did you become resident.

MTA:  Just took a quick look at the application and guide, but don't actually see any reference to what you've mentioned or what I've mentioned!  It just wants you to have been in the country for a specific period of time and to give the number of days you've been out of the country during that time...

I've had another look at it myself and I can't find that question either - I think I must have seen it online somewhere (I originally saw form AN1, which I think had the question, but then a couple of days later I clicked through to the citizenship section and clicked the bit relevant to a spouse to get form AN) ... I'm assuming that I've got the right form printed now ... the BIA website isn't too clear sometimes ...
