UK/US Ipod
« on: July 30, 2009, 07:19:39 PM »
Hi guys,

I am moving in just over a month - yay!  My iPod is DEAD and I am trying to figure out if I should just buy one here (US) and bring it with me to the UK or just wait till I get out there.  Is there a difference?  Can I get a UK charger?

I also plan on buying a UK apple computer, do you think this will be a problem?

Thanks!

No difference from US to UK.
Charger is the same for the computer- unless you want the wall charger, which if you get a travel charger has all the appropriate plugs anyhow.

What kind of problems do you forsee with a UK apple computer?

I'd buy it wherever it's cheapest.

Related to this, I won't be bringing my desktop computer with me to the UK, so how do I transport my iTunes without having to build the collection up from scratch? Are there programs that will allow the info flow of an iPod to be two-directional instead of just one, so that I can put everything on it onto a new computer when I get one in the UK?

Copy your iTunes library to an external drive and bring that with you.

If you have your iTuness music also in folders on your computer, I would copy those to discs or an external hard drive, or both. This is what I did, with all my files and folders, not just music. Then it's a case of either insert the discs or do usb hookup to the new computer, and drag-and-drop into the Music folder. From there I would think you can load back into your iPod. Might be wrong but its seems the likeliest scenario.

Using a portable drive is a great idea, and these days they are not too expensive.  But there are programs that you can use to load iTunes from your iPod, as well.  If you google something like "upload computer from iPod" you will find lots of them.  I used one when we switched computers, and it worked well and didn't cost anything for the first 10 or so uses, and I only used it once.  Unfortunately, I don't remember what it was called, but, as I said, there are quite a few of them.
