The price is about on par for the same brand in the US... it's the one I buy at whole foods.... with the exchange rate it is higher there though...

Broxi... would love to have some pointers for using dried chilis.  Really really want to make my own chili powder with like like of anchos ect... could you post or PM me some ideas?

I dont make my own chili powder, although if you have good grinding equipment, i dont see why you couldnt do it!  I just use dried chillis (chipotle, ancho, jalapeno, habanero, etc) in place of fresh... i rehydrate them by soaking them in boiling water until they are soft, and then i either slice, dice, or make them into a paste.  They always say to remove the seeds, but i never do, cos we like it to be as hot as possible.  I also throw dried jalapenos into a jar of olive oil & keep it in the fridge.  The Cool Chile Co @  www.coolchile.co.uk have a great selection.  Good luck!

tom and i went to a BBq yesterday at a friends house...  I had given him a container of old bay to try a few weeks ago...  wouldn't you know he had it on the picnic table and put it on everything he ate...LOL! describing it to everyone else as the best seasoning that i gave him that is from the chesapeake bay area...  everyone loved it...

also something to note...  knoors spring vegetable soup mix makes the best dip...  at home it would have the recipe for dip on package...  I found knoors here as well...but  no recipe for dip...  did not matter, I remembered how to make it...and I made it for our wedding...  I could not believe the positive response I got from people...  and especially the awwes that I actually made a homemade dip  :-\\\\  stating that no one made home made dips here...

Sainsbury's has tinned pinto beans.  I buy them all the time - along with red kidney beans, borlotti beans and black eyed beans (peas).
wow, black eyed peas....  mmmmm, love making blackeyed peas with salt pork, onion and water....  in a pressure cooker for about 5 hours.  have not seen dried black eyed peas here yet...and sure salt pork will be hard to find as well...  need to find a sainsbury for my bean needs.

I take things for them. Always a bag of PB M&Ms.  I'm going to have to take maple syrup, because I'm one of those people that won't eat pancakes without it. This time I am taking the M&Ms, Country Time pink lemonade, maple syrup. Basically as much as I can cram in my bags.

The one thing I REALLY wish I could find in Scotland is saltine crackers.  I've tried everything I can think of for a substitue, but no joy.

I miss 3 Musketeers and Butterfingers at times, but as I am not a regular candy bar gal, I can get over it easily enough.

There is a GREAT Mexican/American import store in Edinburgh (and one in Glasgow) that does Betty Crocker, Cheese-in-a-Can, Libbys Pumkin and lots more.  I am sure there must be some great places similar throughout the UK.

Ahhh, saltines and American Campbell's tomato soup! Bliss! Ooooh! With a grilled cheese sandwich and a dill pickle (salt overload but great winter's day comfort lunch!).

Broxi, I may have to ask you to post me saltines one day, too. Our closest Costco is over a 2 hour drive away and I don't qualify for membership anyway.  :P
When I was 5 years old, my mother always told me that happiness was the key to life. When I went to school, they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wrote down ‘happy’. They told me I didn’t understand the assignment, and I told them they didn’t understand life. ~ John Lennon

Broxi--

I see you are near by me, so do you happen to know if there is a Costco in the Edinburgh / Lothians area?  Also, do you know if an American Costco card works, or if it needs to be one from the UK.

Thanks much!
Frances

Thanks--I know where Ikea is, so I can find Costco with ease.

I guess I'll have to have someone send my card from home.  Some things I just never thought to bring with...just have to remember which drawer of the desk it is in back home!!!
