Practical driving test booked, any suggestions?
« on: August 07, 2009, 09:22:48 AM »
Comments? feedback? Things I should watch for? Tips? Anything?
Needless to say, I'm more than a bit nervous! I have a few more weeks to go before the test, but still, nervous!!!

If you are OK with it and he/she agrees, take your instructor along with you. You will not be allowed to communicate in any way (obviously), but if you fail, your instructor will be able to give you feedback. Also, my cynicism thinks they are less likely to fail you for flimsy reasons.  ;D

Good luck!

Make sure you drive around with your instructor for an hour or so before the test to 'warm up'.  It's quite helpful, especially if you're testing in their car.

And, this may sound pessimistic -but it's really not meant to be.

Don't expect to pass on the first try.

The reason I say this is that if you don't expect to pass on the first try, perhaps you won't put so much pressure on yourself, and it may help a little with the nerves.

Many people (inluding myself) don't pass on the first try, so if you happened to fail the first time, you would be in quite common company.  And for the second test, at least in my case I was much less nervous because I knew exactly what to expect.

And If you do happen to pass the first time, excellent, it'll be a pleasant surprise!

If you are OK with it and he/she agrees, take your instructor along with you.

You can have anyone accompany you on the test if you think it might help.  Same rules about non-interference, of course.

If you haven't already, take a few lessons in the area where you'll be tested so your instructor can take you around the test routes and make sure you know about anything that might throw you off.

Good luck!

If you can, change the date to a Saturday, around 8am.  That's when I did my test and it was dead quiet, and of course dead easy.  The more traffic you have around  you the more chances for things to go wrong.  It does cost a tad more but well worth it.  I passed first time.  I passed first time for my motorcycle test too and it was raining with lots of traffic.  It's not really any harder than the american version, it's just longer.
